The quarry of Bauxite was used for the production of aluminum. Its particular name comes from a French village “Les Baux de Provance”, where the first mines were born in 1822.

Reach the ancient Torre del Serpe, a large oil lighthouse from Roman times, landmark for sailors who landed in the port. Along the way you will go to observe the Palombara Cave and the Masseria delle Orte, which gives a breathtaking view of Baida delle Orte. Continuing this wonderful and evocative walk you will admire the Bauxite Quarry with its wonderful colors. In the end the tour ends with a visit to the historic center of Otranto.
