Welcome to the sound ceramics workshop:

Begin your journey by participating in the unique "sound ceramics" workshop. Here, you will be the protagonist in creating a typical Materan "cucù", an experience that will immerse you in the art and ancient secrets of ceramic craftsmanship.

Walk through the Sassi of Matera:

As you immerse yourself in the evocative atmosphere of the Sassi of Matera, you will have the opportunity to listen to the sweet and mysterious sound of the cuckoo, the typical Materan whistle that often echoes through the ancient streets. This sound is a symbol of local tradition and craftsmanship, passed down for generations by master artisans.

Practical lesson in clay work:

In the workshop, under the guidance of a recognized Master Artisan, you will have the opportunity to learn various clay working techniques to create the cucù. This includes creating a monotonous, bitonal, and water cuckoo, and hand decorating the artifacts.

Creating your cucù:

Together with the Master Artisan, you will put your skills and creativity into practice to create your personalized cuckoo. You will follow step-by-step the processing, from raw clay to the finished piece, learning and experimenting with the traditional techniques used by local master artisans.

Decoration and firing of artifacts:

Once your cucù is completed, you will have the opportunity to hand-decorate it with customized patterns and designs. Subsequently, the artifacts will be fired in the kiln to fix the decoration and make them durable over time.
