Matera, European Capital of Culture 2019, is known not only for its landscape and architectural beauties, but mostly for its sublime scents and flavors related to the local culinary tradition, such as the Bread of Matera.
The origins of the Bread of Matera are ancient and reflect the slowness of peasant life and the Sassi districts, and even today this product constitutes a true excellence of the area, recognized as a PGI (Protected Geographical Indication).

In detail:
Our experiential tour includes an educational workshop on bread making with a prior presentation and description of the company, which has been active in the area for as many as four generations. Everything starts with the explanation of the products used, such as: best local semolina and sourdough. This is followed by the entry to the workshop where the master baker will describe processing techniques: kneading, rising, making the bread shape and issuing the stamp type that characterizes the Bread of Matera.
During the making of the bread shapes, guests will get their hands in the dough by working and creating their own loaf of bread that they can take away with them when they finish baking.
At the end of processing, guests can conclude this experiential tour with a tasting of typical products at a designated area where they can comfortably relax.
